New LIGO Cluster to Advance Groundbreaking Research at Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech’s Partnership for an Advanced Computing Environment (PACE) recently deployed a cluster to support the Nobel Prize winning Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) project. This project observed the first gravitational waves from the merger of two black holes, and, in doing so, confirmed Einstein’s predictions according to his theory of general relativity.

Upcoming Firewall Upgrades

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is preparing to conduct a series of firewall upgrades starting Tuesday, May 5.

The schedule for the series of upgrades is as follows:

  • Tuesday, May 5 

This will begin at 8:00 p.m. on May 5 and conclude by 11:59 p.m.

  • Thursday, May 7 

This will begin at 8:00 p.m. on May 7 and conclude by 11:59 p.m.

Georgia Tech Introduces New Enterprise Project Management Tool

Georgia Tech’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) recently launched a new project management platform that will enhance how projects are introduced, approved, tracked, and managed across the Institute. IT Business Management, or ITBM, is a robust portfolio and project management solution that is powered by ServiceNow technology, also leveraged for managing service and support requests at services.gatech.edu.

Georgia Tech Announces New Vice President for Information Technology

After a national search, the Georgia Institute of Technology has selected Daren Hubbard as its new chief information officer and vice president for Information Technology. Hubbard joins Georgia Tech from Wayne State University, where he serves as chief information officer and associate vice president for Computing and Information Technology.

Hubbard will start his new role on September 8 and will report directly to the executive vice president for Administration and Finance.

Banner and Techworks Downtime During Scheduled Maintenance Aug. 28

The Office of Information Technology will perform a data center firewall upgrade and network migration to address security and performance issues this Friday, August 28, from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.

During the maintenance window, access to Banner, PeopleSoft Financials, and TechWorks will be impacted. Users should not experience impact to cloud services such as Office 365 or Canvas during this maintenance period.

Georgia Tech has made significant progress in our efforts to control the spread of coronavirus through asymptomatic surveillance and clinical testing programs.
